End of December and Begining of Januaray Update part 1

Ready for a long read?

I will try to keep it as concise as possible.

Christmas- It was incredibly quiet. We didn't decorate, no special food, nada. And  you know what? It was ok. I had a minor melt down just because life is changing, but that is part of what makes life interesting. My dad actually preached this Christmas eve, he didn't get sick.

Early January-I went to NYC for the first time. I fell in love with the city. I loved the metro system. It wasn't that hard to learn. I did learn a few important things about myself while I was there. I don't do big groups, or even medium groups when I am in a new city. I prefer small groups or just a few people. I explored at my own pace, I knew as soon as I landed that I would be coming back. So, I only did a few things. Other people felt like this was going to be their only trip and so they did as much as possible.

I found a few incredible places to get coffee, if you stay at the Q4 hostel, there is a place called "Our CafĂ©" coffee shop just up the block. Oh My.. It was so good. Better and cheaper than the chain with green straws. They had pastry's that were huge, I wish I had taken a picture. The ladies at the counter gave me some great advice on where to go and what to do.

I saw the High Line, Macys, the Empire State, and  Tiffany's.( I had a childhood flashback of when my father and I went to a diamond factory, and I asked how much I could spend, the answer was the same both times $0 ) Of course I saw Times Square, and explored all around there. There are a few places that I want to go find on my next trip. There is a bookstore that I missed :(

I found a fabric store and yes, I did bring home some for my mom. It was massive.

I took the train,(Amtrak) both there and back. I had mixed experiences.

On the way there I had a great time, I was a little delayed, but nothing to complain about. There is so much more room on a train. I could get up and walk, my bags fit with no problem, and it was an enjoyable experience.

On the way home was a different story. It was not as enjoyable. I missed my connection by 15 minuets when I should have had a significant layover. Now, Amtrak did put me on the next train, however, there was no compensation for the delay. I do feel that if a person is that late for a connection because they were delayed on a different train there should have been a voucher or something. Nothing huge, but 20 people missed their connections. I was at Union Station almost 4 hours. I ended up buying snack and Dinner at Union station. If the train had been on time I would have been home to eat diner. I had to continually text my ride to keep them updated. At one point the response to my text was "there are no words anymore" this was after I had updated on yet another delay.

Now, please understand the people on the train were awesome, they were doing their best. My complaint has nothing to do with them. The conductors and staff did their best to help me out. :) Kudos to them.

This is just part 1. School starts tomorrow.

Mid Week Recap

The first part of the week has been fairly calm.. Except for one SMALL detail..

My sister got a part time job, that is a good thing. It is the night shift and its close to home . However, that means that my mom and I are the childcare for the 10mtn old and the 5 year old.

This is not what  I thought we would be doing .. its ok, but we are going to have t adjust .

This semester is going to be intense. Not like last year, this year is more" hands up",there is a plethora of things to keep straight. I have my schedule color coded and I'm not sure that it will be enough. I am planning on staying at school late 2 days a week to try to study. It is a challenge to do here with the baby and her brother.

I have trouble focusing on studying for school and ignoring the baby, when I know in less than 9 months, I will be graduating and Hopefully moving.

Todays post brought to you by my friend COFFEE. I am going to be drinking many cups this semester. :)

It's a beautiful day

The sun is shining.

My alarm actually went off .. and I heard it.

The hot water is working in the house

The internet is working in the house both on the desktop and on wifi.

A friend of mine challenged me to 5 days of positive posts. 3 each day.  I think I may try to continue longer than 5 days .With a modification; one each day  after Monday.

Positive thinking has anecdotal evidence that says "if you start your day positive that is how the rest of the day will follow." I'm not sure I completely agree with that. There are certain things you cannot control and have no business doing so. But, You can almost always control your reaction to them.

So, For Today I am going to look on the positive side. And get a cup of coffee.

Easter ect

Lent is over
Easter Came :) Thank YOU

How did your giving up or taking up go?

I discovered I don't really like coffee, its ok, but I would rather drink hot coco-
 go figure

We had a good Easter service, and the breakfast was yummy(Thank you), the kids enjoyed their Easter egg hunt. The minions(and mini-minions) did a great job with their parts. I was grateful we did not have Sunday School.

Next Weekend , I have a Sunday off, I got a sub for my class and I am not attending my home church. (shocking)thought sarcastically.

Taxes are done, paid and now to plan for summer.
There may be a few cross country trips with mom. We are going to look at Universities, maybe visit a few friends. :)

The dear Hubby has 1 extra scheduled day off in July, (we already have the date) and I already have an idea what we are going to do :) Cabins/camping/relaxing- no technology. This could be interesting.

There is a craft fair on the 3rd of May . I am excited to see how it goes.
I am still working on finding a paying job. Only part time. God will provide.

lent 2+ update

How are you doing with Lent? Its a work in process for me.. Lent is good for working on priorities, I know the main thing is to get closer to God,however...

I ended up giving up coffee for Lent. Not Caffeine , just coffee as I drink it on a daily basis. I am discovering the different teas we keep in the house. I love earl grey but I also like lady gray.I am rediscovering stories in the Bible .Some are old favorites and some are new experiences. Believe it or not there is a cool story in the book of Numbers chapter 27, Go ahead and look it up.
I had never heard it before. Guess what? Neither had Dad or Mom. Its fun to find stories in the Bible that are not popular.

I have had a productive day.

I had a date with the hubby , we went to lunch and had time to talk about vacation ideas. We came to the realization we needed to leave for a bit, just a 3 day weekend. There is debate where we are going to go,but at least we are coming up with some good ideas. We don't want to spend the days driving so it has to be somewhat close to Central Illinois.

Then:
I came home and worked on church stuff for a bit.Checked the FB, and email.

Afterwords:
Mom and I made a list for town of stuff we needed to pick up,including bottled water for the Coffee machine.  We stopped at the Hair Salon to see if mom could get in to see her stylist, she has to have her picture taken tomorrow and the surgery had done a number on her hair. Her stylist couldn't see her til 5 pm,but she did get her in, and her hair looks wonderful. Its wash and go.

While she was getting that done I went to the bookstore! I bought a tea latte. There were several good books that I considered getting but I am going to wait. I have stuff coming in the mail to explore sometime in the next week.

Came home, Made dinner, updated this post, made priorities for tomorrow, and started looking for ideas for vacation.

Mom has a meeting in Springfield tomorrow and she still can't drive, the doctor has not cleared her yet.
So , I am going to be driving up  and I have from early morning to mid afternoon to do whatever I want as long as I am back to pick up mom ,its weird, I will probably hang around the office and read or sketch for a bit. I have time to write, edit and plan ideas.
I will post tomorrow but it will be short.

Who's Birthday? Oh Mine

My birthday is this week. There have been so many other things on my mind that I didn't even remember until I looked in the bulletin at Church. Oops

Birthdays are important. But for me they come with issues. Enjoy life and the people you love.  I will be celebrating by not doing anything special except maybe going to the book store and getting a book, a cup of coffee and maybe a slice of cheesecake.
